Requirements
SmartCVS requires a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.1 or higher to run. You can download the platform-specific packages from SUN's website. Users of MS Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista can alternatively download the out-of-the-box package below (which contains a bundled JRE 1.6.0_04).

Installation
Generally, if you have an older version installed, first uninstall that and then install the new one. Uninstalling does not delete the settings, because they are stored in a different location (in your home directory).
Microsoft Windows
Unzip the downloaded file, launch the installer and follow the instructions.
Mac OS X
Unpack the downloaded file (e.g. by double clickin it) and move the application directory structure to a directory of your choice (typically /Applications). If you like, move the application to the dock to create an icon.
Linux, Unix, OS/2 and Other OS
Unpack the downloaded file into a directory of your choice. Ensure, that the correct JRE is installed. To start the application, use the launcher script from the bin-directory. If it fails to start, e.g. because you have also an incompatible JRE version on your system, it might be necessary to edit the launcher script, e.g. by explicitly setting the JAVA_HOME environment variable. To create an icon on your desktop, you'll find suitable images in different sizes in the bin-directory.
