SmartCVS requires a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.1 or higher to run.
- For Microsoft Windows NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista, you may choose the installer with JRE.
- For Mac OS X, version 10.4 or newer, the necessary JRE is present on your system.
- For other platforms, you can download platform-specific JRE packages from SUN's website.

Installation
If you have an older version installed, we recommend to uninstall this version first and install the new version afterwards. Uninstalling does not delete the settings, because they are stored in a different location (in your home directory).
Microsoft Windows
- Unzip the downloaded file
- Launch the installer and follow the instructions
Mac OS X
- Unpack the downloaded file (e.g. by double clicking it) and move the application directory structure to a directory of your choice (typically /Applications)
- If you prefer, move the application to the dock to create an icon
Linux, Unix, OS/2 and Other OS
- Unpack the downloaded file into a directory of your choice
- Ensure, that the correct JRE is installed
- Start the application by using the launcher script from the bin-directory
If the application fails to start, e.g. because you have an incompatible JRE version on your system, it might be necessary to edit the launcher script, e.g. by explicitly setting the JAVA_HOME environment variable. To create an icon on your desktop, you'll find suitable images in different sizes in the bin-directory.
